What the...?!?!

What a WEEK!! If the case of the woman 'allegedly' drugging her estranged husband, then chopping his 'member' off, THEN throwing it in the garbage disposal, Halle Berry's stalker CONTINUOUSLY invading her privacy and runnin' up on her AT HER PRIVATE RESIDENCE, the man in new york charged with first degree murder for 'allegedly' kidnapping, then dismembering that poor little 8 year old boy, or the report of a 12 year old girl who got probation for cyber-stalking and harassing an 'ex-friend' on Facebook isn't enough proof that some folks are LOSIN' IT.....THIS RIGHT HERE?!?!?......

Keepin' it REAL.....

I know it's been awhile since I've posted, but, I saw something a couple of weeks ago that was totally uncalled for, so I had to take to the blog pages and EXPRESS myself. It was a clip from one of those daytime talk shows, where the young lady had the audacity to blame Erin Andrews for the horror that she went through when she was stalked, harrassed and horrified by a peeping Tom. She even went so far as to blame Erin for the hell and horror that she went through by saying it was her fault because Erin was dressing provocatively on the show "Dancing With The Stars". How Dare She?!! Coming from a person who has been stalked and horrified more than once in my life, a person has absolutely NO control over what some PSYCHO will do, especially when he or she starts to disrupt their life and turn it inside out. IT IS NEVER THE VICTIM'S FAULT!!! When she offered an apology the next day, it was obvious that it was because of the HUGE backlash she suffered from the public. I am here to commend Erin Andrews. At least SHE was able to put her stalker behind bars. Counting the days......

Marketing Genius!!!

Erykah Badu, I've said on many occasions, is on some other stuff. In a day where artists have to pull out all the stops to make a big impact on the charts, (think Usher "Confessions", 2004) where there just HAS to be a big story before the release of the album. He and Chili (formerly of TLC) had the huge breakup and the cheating story which we ALL thought was the inspiration of the album, which went on to sell more than 10 million copies worldwide (and probably his BEST album to date). There have been countless stories of the sort since then. Sooooo, Erykah has created one of the same stories in which she films a guerilla-style video for her lead single for "Window Seat (From "Nu Amerykah Part 2: Return of the Ankh"), where she strips naked, no permits, in downtown Dallas, at the site where JFK was assassinated (Dealey Plaza). The video is released two days before her album was released, then pulled from You Tube...and everywhere else! Well, I'm here to tell you, the ONLY place you can find the video now is on her official website, www.erykahbadu.com....I'm just sayin'...MARKETING GENIUS!!!

STOP IT!!!!

It's high time we stop giving an audience to people who "Cry Out for Attention". By that, I mean people who do things to shock us...things to hurt others, just to bring attention to themselves. We have to decide once and for all that we are NOT going to give them an audience. If we all join together, maybe they'll get the message and learn that these kinds of things won't be tolerated. You know what 'things' I'm talking about. When people make racial comments in the media, say that recent Oscar nominees are 'fat' (as if they don't have a mirror), etc. When you hear any of these things, KNOW that people like this are just crying out for attention. You've heard the story of the boy who cried wolf. I'm just sayin'.....

When People Take Things Too Far....

How do you handle situations when people take things too far? Whatever the case may be. At work...at home...when you just know someone is purposely trying you because they know that deep down you are a genuinely good person. Do you turn the other cheek, because you know that's the Christian way? Do you lose your cool? Do you show that silent strength? Sometimes we find ourselves in those situations and my word to you is to hold on and don't give up because just when you think that nice guys always finish last...they don't. I'm just sayin'.

Words of GROW on....

When I was in high school, all I ever wanted to do was be on the radio. My first internship in radio was when I was in the eighth grade. It was a Gospel radio station. I would try to soak up every bit of information I could, just to try to better myself. By the time I got my first 'real job' in radio, I had done three internships. I was determined to hone my craft BEFORE I got on the job. Those were the good ole days...but trust me...they weren't all good.....when I hit a little 'bump' in the road, yes, I got a little down, but my mom would always tell me not to take it personal....take it and learn something from it....then use it as a stepping stone to help me in my career and my everyday life. Now, when I hit a little 'bump' in the road (which seems to be a little more often these days) I hear those words from my mom. She always has GREAT advice. So I'll just pass those words on....when you hit a little bump...take the experience and learn something from it. Every experience, whether good or bad is designed to teach us something. It's your task to find out what lesson you're supposed to be learning from that experience. Trust me, when you stop learning, you stop GROWING. I'm just saying.

I'm Just Sayin'....

Had a chance to watch the Rhianna interview on Friday night, and the aftermath of people basically GOIN' IN on her is disappointing, to say the least. Sometimes, people can be so brutal, it's no surprise that she's waited this long to speak about the experience she's been through. "She must have an album to promote"...........just ONE of the more popular comments I've heard. While a lot of artists do wait for the most opportune moment to 'do something big' before an album drops, and they do pour a lot of their personal experiences into their music, I think that we are forgetting the bigger issue here....domestic violence. No, we DON'T know the real circumstances that occured that night. We weren't in that car. What we DO know is that women all over the world are experiencing this every day and Rhianna is being vilified for speaking out. There was a time when it was SO very hard for me to understand why battered women kept quiet. After Friday night....not so much. I'm just sayin'.....

Help! I'm a Reality T.V. show addict!

Hi, my name is Shilynne..and I'm addicted to Reality TV (Hi Shilynne!). When I'm done with a 13-hour day (oh, you didn't think I went home at 2pm, did you?), I unwind by watching reality shows on tv, and not just reality shows....television in general, but reality shows, and the craziness that it has come to, is what I tend to watch the most. Don't know if you know this, but I LOVE to laugh :-). A few days ago, I thought I was going to fall over when I finally had a chance to catch the premiere episode of "I Want to Work for Diddy". Okay,****SPOILER ALERT****.....Yes, I know that most of these shows ARE scripted, and when I found that out, I was HEARTBROKEN!!! For some reason, it didn't take away the entertainment factor for me. Some of my faves? "The Bachelorette" (last season was the best....and the worst!!) "The RHOA", (OMG, somebody PLEASE hug Nene before she ends up on a STRETCHER!!!!), the new season of "The Bad Girls" is about to start, (WHAT? can't help it!!!!), "The Real World", "RW/RR Challenge", (OMG...DRAMA!!!), let's NOT forget "Bridezillas", and of course the comedy that is Diddy, just to name a few....those will keep you laughing for a minute, if you dare check 'em out....HEY, laughter's good for the soul. I'm just sayin'....

I'm Just Sayin'....

I'm really diggin' this dude Lao Tzu...very profound philosopher. When I'm a little stressed, I can usually go to his teachings and find encouragement. Case in point:

"Respond intelligently even to unintelligent treatment."

I'm Just Sayin'.....

A Chinese philosopher (Lao Tzu) once said "Kindness in words creates confidence. Kindness in thinking creates profoundness. Kindness in giving creates love." That quote speaks to me because it costs us absolutely nothing to be kind to one another, but for some reason we choose the opposite. It costs us nothing to be happy, but we choose not to be. It costs us nothing to count our blessings and focus on positive things, but for some reason we choose the opposite. If everything in life is a choice, why not CHOOSE happiness? It's tougher to do....BUT, if your count your blessings, you'll soon find that you'll have more blessings to count....I'm just saying.

LOVE YOURSELF (AND OTHERS)....PART 2!!!

These are just my thoughts, which come from my everyday experiences....which prompts me to ask the question, "Why are we so quick to think the worst of each other?" Why can't we just take people for what we see (or hear). Is it THAT hard to believe that 'what we see (or hear) is REALLY what we get? There is so much negativity circling, I just think that we ALL need to do what we can to combat that with as much positivity as possible. You know where it starts? WITHIN! If you love yourself, there is no room to hate others or assume the worst of others. I'm not saying be gullible. You can still take things people say and do with a grain of salt, and be positive at the same time. What it all boils down to is if you truly love people, there's no room to judge....I'm just sayin'.

Self Love.

In my day to day encounters with people, I often encounter experiences where when I walk past a person, I tend to smile and say hello, even if I don't know that person. It's not a hard thing to do. Sometimes they smile and respond. Sometimes they don't. It doesn't bother me if they don't, because I've made the effort. In conversations with people, I tend to hear a lot of negativity. In these tough times, that's not hard to come by, but what we don't realize is that negativity begets negativity. We need to practice speaking positivity into our lives if we want things for us to be better. There are 12 Universal laws, one of which is the Universal law of Attraction which states that we attract whatever we give the most attention to in our lives. Whatever you concentrate on, that's what you attract into your life, so concentrate on positive things and wanting GREAT things for your life. Under Universal Law, there are also 21 sub-laws, one of which is Self Love. We say we love ourselves, but how is that possible when there's so much 'hateration' (to steal MJB's word) going on? Until we can truly look within and be happy with what we see in the mirror, we're always gonna be angry with SOMEBODY...co-workers, the boss, the opposite sex, the kids, the dog, even the person on the street we don't even know, but are angry with her because 'she thinks she's all that'. Guess what? So are you! Stop that. Love yourself!....I'm just sayin'....

To "Tweet" or not to "Tweet"....

In this day and age of 'social networking', one has to be up on all of the latest technology. I'd like to think I'm one of those people. I mean, I AM a gadget freak. I'm one of those people who just HAS to have the newest, hottest phone, p.d.a. television, etc. When it comes to the social networking thing, that's where I fall behind. I'm probably the last in my group to have gotten a facebook page, and this "Twitter" thing? Oh, forget it!! I don't understand half of those terms! What is a "tweet"? and what the heck does "RT" mean??? I get emails all the time that "So and So wants to follow you on Twitter". I guess time will tell if I get sucked into the "Twitterverse" or not. I'm just saying.....

Is Customer Service a thing of the Past?

The more I shop, whether it's in the grocery store, the gas station, or the one stop, I find myself asking the question, "Whatever happened to customer service?" I'm in the customer service business myself, so I'd like to think I know of what I speak. While shopping at a store, which shall remain nameless, I was APALLED at the attitude of the person behind the counter. I was truly admiring one of the items in the shop. When I asked about it, the one nice person in the store kindly let me know that it was not for sale (it belonged to the person sitting behind the counter). Mind you, that was not the item I went in the store to purchase (I went in to purchase a t-shirt). When the nice lady was done informing me that the item was not for sale and I had moved a little further in the store, the person behind the counter very loudly stated, "When I leave, I'm taking that thing with me because I'm getting TIRED of people ASKING about it." Saying nothing, I walked out of the store WITHOUT purchasing the t-shirt I initially went in for. How long would it take to take a little card with black block letters that reads, "DISPLAY ITEM ONLY", and place it on the item so that people will "Stop asking you about it?" Then again, isn't that why you're there? I'm just saying......
