Guardians of the Galaxy Shatters Box Office Record
It’s been a pretty good year for the folks at Marvel Comics.
In the spring, their Captain America: The Winter Soldier did very well in theaters.
And this weekend, their new untested Guardians of the Galaxy set a new record for a film opening in August, taking in a staggering $94 million. That’s $25 million better than the previous record-hoolder, 2007’s The Bourne Ultimatum.
Not bad for something with a castful of unfamiliar characters. Including a small-man-sized talking weapon-wielding raccoon. Yeah, I have to admit – that’s kind of cool.
It looks like these straight-off-the-comic-page movies aren’t just for geeks anymore. Either that, or I have entered geekhood.
