It's been a week, yet the news of Prince's untimely passing has yet to sink in. I keep thinking I'm gonna suddenly be snatched out of my sleep and realize, 'Man, what kind of crazy dream was that?!' We always use the term 'Icon' when talking about most of today's long-standing, platinum-selling recording artists, but the term 'Iconic' doesn't seem to scratch the surface of the talent, the music, the social activisim, and pure genius of Prince Rogers Nelson. I've been a fan since his first album, 'For You', and remained a fan through all of his albums, hairstyle changes, and battles with his record label for the rights to his music...I was in Hawaii in 1996 and had the extreme pleasure of seeing him in concert during the 'Emancipation' tour when he had 'Slave' emblazoned on his right cheek. I was in the third row and screamed the entire night! One of the best concerts I had ever seen, which made me an even bigger fan. It would be 2011 before I would see him in concert again. "The Welcome 2 America' tour came to Greensboro coliseum and I was first in line to buy tickets, something I rarely do, but I was not about to miss Prince in concert! I'm sure my experiences are just like any other Prince fan, in that this loss is a bit hard to take, but I take comfort in knowing that the music and the legacy of one of the greatest artists of our time and beyond.....will live on.
Rest in Power.....Prince Rogers Nelson
Check out the video below of one of my favorite (too many to name) performances...this one from Prince's 'Rave Un2 the Year 2000' DVD:
It's been awhile...both for a post from me AND for new music from Jazmine Sullivan. Her new album, "Reality Show", is due soon and the second single, "Forever Don't Last" is currently at radio. Check out the new video....
Congrats to Kenny 'Babyface' Edmonds for getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame! Can't wait for the new duet album with Toni Braxton, due December 3rd, "Love, Marriage, and Divorce". Here's the new clip for "Hurt You".
